Terms of Use
Last updated: 3 September 2026
1. Who We Are & Acceptance
Byte is provided by ByteDev, a sole trader in the United Kingdom (see the Privacy Policy for contact details). By using the Byte Discord bot, ByteChat, or ByteCode ("the services"), you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use them.
2. Using the Services
You may use the services for personal, non-commercial use. When using the Byte Discord bot you must also follow Discord's own Terms of Service and Community Guidelines — nothing here overrides them.
3. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- use the services for anything illegal, or to create, request, or distribute illegal or seriously harmful content;
- harass, abuse, spam, or harm other people;
- attempt to break, overload, disrupt, probe, or reverse-engineer the services, or get around any limits or restrictions;
- use the services to breach Discord's rules or any other platform's rules.
4. Your Content
You are responsible for the messages, prompts, and files you send to the services. To provide features like conversation memory and saved projects, some of this is stored — how that works and how to delete it is set out in the Privacy Policy. Don't send anything you don't have the right to, or anything you wouldn't want processed on a third party's hardware.
5. AI Output
The services use AI, which can be wrong, misleading, offensive, or unsuitable. Output is generated automatically and is not advice — do not rely on it for anything safety-critical, medical, legal, financial, or otherwise important. You are responsible for how you use what the services produce.
6. Availability & No Warranty
The services run on privately owned hardware as a personal project. They are provided "as is" and on a best-effort basis, with no uptime guarantee. They may be slow, unavailable, changed, or discontinued at any time, without notice.
7. Suspension
We may limit, suspend, or block your access to the services at any time if you breach these terms or misuse them, to protect the services or other users.
8. Paid API
ByteDev also offers a separate paid API. Its use is governed by the API Terms of Service, which apply in addition to these terms if you buy API access.
9. Age
You must be 13 or over to use the services (matching Discord's minimum age).
10. Liability
To the extent permitted by law, ByteDev is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the free services, including from downtime or from the content the AI generates. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot be limited by law.
11. Changes
We may update these terms. Continuing to use the services after a change means you accept the updated terms.
12. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
